In the seventeen years that Spurs have played in the Premier League their best placing has been fifth, which they’ve achieved twice, in season 2005-2006 and 2006 -2007.

Tottenham have under achieved season after season despite plenty of money being spent on good players. A large number of pre season bets are placed on Tottenham - usually making them the best backed team outside the top four-but they always fail to deliver.

A Dreadful start to last season saw Harry Redknapp appointed to try and turn things around and he managed to lead theM to eight position in the league which was pretty remarkable given how they looked like near certain relegation candidates at one point in the season.

There doesn’t seem to be nearly as many bets on Spurs to win the Premiership this season (maybe their fans have finally given up?) but we can see them doing well. Maybe winning the title is beyond them still, but we can see them finishing closer than ever before and there are a couple of bookmakers offering handicap bets on Tottenham (Sky are offering a +15 points handicap at 15/1 to win the league) that look worth taking a chance on.

Tottenham have done well in cup competitions over the last few seasons and taking them to win the FA Cup and Carling Cup are Tottenham bets worth considering.

They do look worth following at home (they won 52% of home games last season) and betting Spurs at home against teams in the bottom half of the league is one bet that looks certain to get returns throughout the season.

Tottenham record against the big four teams since 2004/5 season

Arsenal -        Played:10   Won  0  Drawn  5  Lost  5

Chelsea-         Played:10   Won 2   Drawn  3  Lost  5

Man Utd-         Played:10   Won 0    Drawn  4 Lost  6

Liverpool        Played: 10  Won 1  Drawn  4   Lost  5

Spurs do get a fair number of draws in the league against the top four-usually at home- and that’s a Spurs bet that always has to be considered.  We wouldn’t bet on Tottenham to beat any of the top four however and one Tottenham bet to be avoided is their away fixture with Chelsea. They haven’t won at Stamford Bridge in the league since 1990 so don’t back Spurs to win away at Chelsea.

We believe that Tottenham have an outsiders chance of making the top four and that could be worth a small stake at decent odds.
