Sunderland Betting Guide

Sunderland’s highest ever finish in the Premier League was seventh place, which they achieved two years running in 2000 and 2001. They have had a couple of seasons out of the Premiership since 2003 and since regaining Premier League status in 2007-2008 season have finished in 15th and 16th position in the table.
A lack of goals was a problem for them last season and they failed to score in 58% of their away games. They will need to improve their strike rate if they are to finish higher in the table this season, but they might be capable of that.
We wouldn’t bet on Sunderland winning the Premier League title or even finishing top six, but they have spent quite a lot of money on new players and with new boss Steve Bruce at the helm we can see them managing a mid table or better finish this season.
Betting on Sunderland to have either a good run in the FA Cup or the Carling cup where they will be available at big odds, are worth considering as Steve Bruce will have them well organised and hard to beat. In one-off games (Especially at home) having a bet on Sunderland could see a profit being made.
Sunderland record against the big four teams since 2004/5 season
Arsenal - Played: 6 Won 0 Drawn 2 Lost 4
Chelsea- Played: 6 Won 0 Drawn 0 Lost 6
Man Utd- Played: 6 Won 0 Drawn 1 Lost 5
Liverpool Played: 6 Won 0 Drawn 0 Lost 6
We wouldn’t advise betting Sunderland in a match against any of the top four teams. They haven’t even managed a goal against Liverpool in their last five matches.
Sunderland have also failed to score a goal in four of their five matches against Chelsea and betting Sunderland not to score against Chelsea or Liverpool are bets we’d be considering when the teams meet.
A mid table finish or just below is the best we think Sunderland can do this season.
