This will be Portsmouth’s seventh consecutive season on the Premier League but it could be a shrewd move to bet on it being Portsmouth’s last. Despite having been recently taken over, as we write this article the new owners haven’t invested any money on playing staff yet. They do look as if they are selling some of their best players however and with no decisions being made on who is going to be manager next season the team looks to be in limbo at present.
After finishing 9th in 2006-7 and 8th in 2007-8 seasons big things were expected of Portsmouth, but they have appeared to have gone backwards in their development as a club.
The finished 14th last term and were extremely poor for the second half of the season. A lack of goals away from home was a real problem only managing 12 in their 19 away games. Their defence which has been so solid in previous seasons started to leak goals and at around the 5/1 mark a bet on Portsmouth to be relegated could prove a decent investment.
We can see it being a long hard season for Pompey and a relegation battle looks likely.
Portsmouth record against the big four teams since 2004/5 season

Chelsea- Played: 10 Won 0 Drawn 1 Lost 9
Man Utd- Played:10 Won 2 Drawn 1 Lost 7
Liverpool Played: 10 Won 1 Drawn 3 Lost 6
Portsmouth betting summary- The best Portsmouth best against the big four appears to be taking them to draw at home to Arsenal. Having failed to score in 8 of their 10 matches against Chelsea, you should bet on Chelsea winning to nil when playing Portsmouth.
Our recommended bet on Portsmouth this season is for them to be relegated.
