Manchester City have now been back in the Premier League since 2002 with their highest finish being 8th position. They have invested heavily in new players (around £150m so far) and we think the benefits of that will be reaped this season and we can see a dramatic improvement in results. It’s been said that you can’t buy success, but that’s not true of Chelsea and we can see success for Manchester City by following that route.
A ninth place finish last season was a bit of a let down for fans who expected instant success, but their finishing position wasn’t too bad considering they had a dreadful spell of results for a while. They went a spell of six home games without a win and their away form definitely can be improved on as they only managed four away wins all last season.
Mark Hughes is one of the brightest young British managers in the game and if he is given the time to build a winning team Manchester City could be challenging at the top level for many years to come. It may need another season before we will see the best from them but we’d bet Manchester city will definitely improve on their finishing position from last season.
We believe a bet on Manchester City to finish top four will be a winning one, but whether they will be good enough to win the league is another matter.
Manchester City record against the big four teams since 2004/5 season
Arsenal - Played: 10 Won 2 Drawn 1 Lost 7
Chelsea- Played: 10 Won 1 Drawn 1 Lost 8
Man Utd- Played: 10 Won 3 Drawn 2 Lost 5
Liverpool Played: 10 Won 1 Drawn 3 Lost 6
It could pay to watch their performances this season before having a bet on Manchester City against the top four sides. Improved performances could mean improved results and it might be better to hold off on betting on or against Manchester City.
Historically, Betting Manchester City to get a result in derbies against Manchester United has the most success when they play the top four. In their last 10 matches against Chelsea they have only managed one goal and if you are having a bet it could pay to bet on Manchester City failing to score against Chelsea. Games against Liverpool have only yielded more than two goals per game once in the last nine meetings, betting Manchester City v Liverpool games to be under 2.5 goals could be profitable.
Our best bet for Manchester City this season would be winning the FA Cup.
