Since their last promotion to the Premier League in 2001 Bolton have managed to establish themselves in the league and are a team the opposition hate to face because of their robust playing style.
Bolton were already starting to struggle before manager Sam Allardyce left the club to be replaced by Gary Megson and he hasn’t managed to really improve their standing. The last two seasons have seen the team near the foot the table avoiding relegation in 2007-2008 season by just one point and by six points last season.
If you are having a bet on Bolton we’d advise laying them at home on the exchanges, or betting against Bolton at home when they face top six teams.
They lost just over one third of their home games last season and lack of goals was a problem, managing to score just 20 in their 19 home league matches. If Bolton have a poor start to the season we can see Gary Megson being one of the first managerial casualties of the season and that‘s a bet worth considering.
Bolton record against the top four since 2004/5 season
Arsenal - Played : 10 Won 3 Drawn 2 Lost 5
Chelsea - Played : 10 Won 0 Drawn 3 Lost 7
Liverpool- Played : 10 Won 2 Drawn 1 Lost 7
Man Utd- Played : 10 Won 1 Drawn 1 Lost 8
Bolton haven’t beaten Arsenal since 2006 and don’t have a great record against the top four losing 67.5% of their matches so it’s advisable not to bet on them against the big four. In their eight defeats to Manchester United Bolton have failed to score in six of the losses, so bet Man Utd to win to nil when playing Bolton.
We reckon Bolton will be deep in relegation trouble this season and betting on Bolton to be relegated looks the bet to be on.
