Blackburn won the Premier League in 1994/95 season, but only four years later were relegated to the Championship. After two seasons they gained promotion back into the Premier League and have maintained their Premier League status since.

Since their return to the top flight Blackburn have never recaptured the form they showed in the early 1990’s. Stan Allardyce was brought in to steady the ship and get the team out of relegation trouble and seven points from their last seven games saw them gain enough points to finish in 15th.

They do have money to spend following the Roque Santa Cruz transfer to Man City, but no matter who the striker is they bring in, a mid table finish for Blackburn would be a decent season given their squad –which is more workman like than anything else-but if there is a “surprise” team involved in the relegation battle it may well be Blackburn and at 8/1 a bet on Blackburn to be relegated could be worthwhile.

The Blackburn bets that look the most likely to give a return are taking the over 2.5 goals bet when they are playing away (averaging 59.6% over the last three seasons). Betting on Blackburn at home against teams in the bottom half also should give a good percentage of winning bets. Based on those stats the Blackburn bet that seems to have the best chance of getting a return is betting on a home win with both teams score.

Blackburn record against the top four since 2004/5 season

Arsenal -              Played : 10   Won  1  Drawn  1 Lost  8

Chelsea -              Played :10    Won  1  Drawn  1  Lost  8

Liverpool-            Played : 10   Won  1  Drawn  4  Lost  5

Man Utd-             Played : 10   Won  2  Drawn  3  Lost  5

Blackburn have only managed to find the net once against Arsenal in their last five meetings, so bet Arsenal to win to Nil when playing Blackburn.  There’s a fair chance that a home draw against Liverpool or Manchester United could produce a winning bet on Blackburn.

We think a bottom six finish is likely and we wouldn’t put you off if you wanted to place a bet on Blackburn being relegated.
