Villa’s best ever finish in the Premier League was in 1992 when they finished second to Manchester United. Since then they have finished fourth once 95/96 season, but have never been able to break into the top four since. Last season it looked like a top four finish was likely, but they faded near the end of the season to finish in sixth 10 points off fourth position.

They are regular top eight finishers and from a betting perspective the best Villa bets are for then to finish in the top six or to place a bet on Villa without the big four where they are available at odds of around 6/1 at present.

Villa have a lot of exciting young players at present and they have an abundance of pace in the team, especially up front. If they can add some more depth in quality to their squad then they may be real challengers to break into the top four.

They are the type of team who could do well in cup competitions and could have a bet on Aston Villa to have decent run in this year’s FA Cup.

Aston Villa record against the top four since 2004/5 season

Arsenal-          Played : 10   Won 1  Drawn  4  Lost 5

Chelsea-          Played :10   Won 1  Drawn  5   Lost 4

Liverpool-       Played : 10  Won 0  Drawn  4   Lost 6

Man Utd-        Played : 10  Won   0   Drawn 1   Lost 9

We wouldn’t recommend having a bet on Villa away at any of the big four as a 5% win rate against them is extremely poor.

Villa look set for a  top six finish and if they invest in three or four more quality players to add to their squad then a top four finish is a real possibility and having a bet on Villa to make the top four could be worthwhile.
