Wolves v Liverpool Preview
It’s been a disappointing Premier League season for Wolves (6-3-13), but it’s been much of the same bad luck for Liverpool (7-5-10). The two sides meet on Saturday and Wolves could get their second win over Liverpool. Wolverhampton Wanderers stunned the Anfield faithful around Christmastime with a 1-0 win and are a tempting bet with Liverpool still out of form under new manager Kenny Dalglish.
Wolves are 19th in the Premiership table, but they have had some surprise victories at home this season. Those wins include Chelsea and Manchester City at Molineux. They have five wins at home and wouldn’t be in the relegation zone if it wasn’t for their poor away record. They have been playing well as of late, almost completing a comeback against Manchester City in a 4-3 loss last weekend and a 5-0 win over Doncaster in the FA Cup on Tuesday.
Kevin Doyle is returning to form with two goals in the last two games and has good value to score first with 15/2 odds at SkyBet. He will benefit from the signing of winger Adam Hammill from Barnsley. Karl Henry and David Edwards are expected to return, but Michael Kightly, Adlene Guedioura and George Elokobi are out.
Liverpool have yet to win in three fixtures under Dalglish. Steven Gerrard is still out with a suspension and Joe Cole isn’t 100%. They are 13th in the league table and have the second worst away record in the division, only above Wolverhampton. Liverpool have lost 8 or 11 away matches, including five in a row. They can’t get anything going with only 8 goals in the last 12 away matches.
Expect a low final score since these teams have produced only six goals in the last five meetings between them. Liverpool haven’t scored in the last two meetings against Wolverhampton, but Fernando Torres is the best bet to score first for them with 7/2 odds at SkyBet. If Liverpool lose, it will be a sign of how bad it has become at Anfield and Wolves could get out of the relegation zone. There is no clear football favourite here so take advantage.
