Manchester United v Portsmouth

Manchester United will go back to the top of the Premier League if they can at least take a point from Portsmouth at Old Trafford. United will have been pleased with the 4-4 thriller at Anfield last night as Liverpool dropping a point looks to have given United a little chance to open up a gap again.

We don’t expect United to put out a team anything like the one they fielded against Everton in the FA Cup. United will be going all out for a win to open up a gap over Liverpool and Chelsea and we’re expecting to see all the big names in the starting line up.

As you’d probably expect United are long odds on with a best price available of 1/4 (Ladbrokes).

Portsmouth are on offer at a whopping 14/1 (Bet365) and that’s no real surprise when you consider they have gone nine games away from home without a win. Portsmouth have only managed to score once in their last five visits to Old Trafford ,so backing United to keep a clean sheet at 13/16 (Betfair) is a bet we’d recommend. Also taking United to win to Nil at 5/6 (Paddypower) could end up a winning bet.

It’s difficult to see this game ending in anything other than a win for United and we’re predicting a 3-0 win at 7/1 (Coral). Our first goalscorer selection in this match is Wayne Rooney at 9/2 (Paddypower)

Chelsea v Everton

Chelsea haven’t given up all hope of catching United, but anything less than three points from their game with Everton will surely mean an end to their challenge.

This game will be a dress rehearsal for the FA Cup final, but we wouldn’t read too much into what happens tonight as the game at Wembley is a one off and form can go right out the window…and usually does.

Chelsea haven’t lost at home for eight matches and that is in stark contrast to an Everton team who haven’t managed to win for six games on the road. Chelsea are 4/9 (Bet365) to win tonight and we think that’s a pretty fair price on current form.

There is a little ray of light for Everton fans in the fact that Chelsea have only managed one win in the last four meetings between the teams (the other three games finishing all square). Their home record against Everton reads a little better, but Everton have secured three draws from their last five visits, so while a win for Everton at 15/2 (Skybet) looks unlikely, the draw  at 7/2 (Ladbrokes) is a bet definitely worth considering.

In the last four meetings between these two teams there has been two or fewer goals scored in each and we expect that trend to continue tonight. The under 2.5 goals at 4/5 (Skybet) has to be backed.

Although Chelsea are favourites to win tonight, we’re selecting the draw and we’re going for a 1-1 correct score bet at 15/2 (Skybet).
