Under 21 Euro Championship Outright Odds

The CONCACAF Gold Cup isn’t the only football betting action heating up. The Under 21 European 2011 Championship begins Saturday in Denmark and England. Spain are the favourites but it’s a close call among England, the Czech Republic and Denmark after that.

England are in Group B with Spain, the Czech Republic and the Ukraine. They lost to Germany in 2009 and will look for revenge this year. Germany didn’t qualify this time so England will attempt their first Under 21 Euros win since 1984.

England will be without Andy Carroll and Jack Wilshere, but they do have Daniel Sturridge up front. Sturridge scored his fourth goal in 12 under 21 matches in the 2-0 exhibition win over Norway. England needs to build on that as their second win in their last five friendlies. They lost just one in 12 matches before that so we can expect their best when it counts.

Spain are the outright favourites to win the Under 21 Euros. They are led by Atletico Madrid keeper David De Gea and Barcelona’s Bojan Krkic, who has four goals in 17 matches. They drew 1-1 with Russia in their final friendly but remain the team to beat as they go for their first under 21 championship since 1998.

The Czech Republic easily took care of Germany and Greece in the group qualifiers. The Ukraine beat Holland to get here.

Host country Denmark is favoured to win Group A with Switzerland and an underrated Iceland team not far behind. Belarus is the outside bet in this group. With a weaker Group A, it seems that Spain or England should be on their way to glory if all goes to plan and they get out of Group B.
