Scunthorpe v Burnley Preview

There is an interesting matchup in the Football League Championship on Saturday with Scunthorpe United (7-2-15) and Burnley (9-9-7). New manager Eddie Howe will take his side to Glanford Park to take on relegation zone dwellers Scunthorpe. He is predicted to win his first match at the helm since Scunthorpe has only one won at home this season. It should be an easier match that what new manager Kenny Dalglish has this weekend with Liverpool v Wolves in the Premier League.

Howe was formerly with Bournemouth, who he took from the depths of League Two to fourth in League One. He is hoping to continue that with Burnley in their quest for the Premier League. They are 10th in the Championship standings, six short of the play-offs. Burnley have been inconsistent lately, but they should get back on track against Scunthorpe.

Chris Iwelumo is the top goalscorer for Burnley with 10 on the season, all of which came at home. Still, he is a good bet to take advantage of a poor Scunthorpe defence and score first with 5/1 odds at Paddy Powder. Midfielder Chris Eagles has six goals on the season and has good value to score anytime during the match at 13/5 odds.

All is not lost for Scunthorpe though. Burnley have underperformed by losing four of their last 12 and winning only one on the road all season. They will likely add a win to that road tally this weekend though because of 23rd placed Scunthrope dismal home record. Scunthorpe has only five points and nine goals at home. They haven’t won since August, a run of nine games in which eight were defeats.

Kilmarnock striker Conor Sammon decided against a move to Scunthorpe this week, so Martyn Woolford will continue to be relied on for goals. He has six on the season and is a decent bet to score anytime with 3/1 odds at Paddy Powder, since Burnley has kept only one clean sheet away from home this season. In any case, Howe has an easy first match as the new boss and Burnley should roll to a victory.
