Real Madrid v Lyon Preview
Real Madrid face Lyon in the second leg of their last 16 Champions League match on Wednesday night at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The first leg in France resulted in a 1-1 draw but the Spanish side is the football betting favourite to win this week.
Real Madrid have not beat Lyon in seven fixtures and will be looking to get past the last 16 stage for the first time in seven years. Former Chelsea manager and two-time Champions League winner Jose Mourinho should get them to the next stage this year. The Real Madrid boss has only one four home losses in 39 matches.
Real Madrid would have earned the win in France if it weren’t for a late Bafetimbi Gomis equalizer. Karim Benzema scored for Real Madrid in the first match and is a decent bet to score first this week with 7/2 odds at Ladbrokes. The former Lyon has scored eight goals in his last six matches and five in the past three in the Champions League. And, Real Madrid have scored first in every Champions League match this term.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s return from injury has Real Madrid in superb form as they are unbeaten in the Champions League. Ronaldo has 11/4 odds to score first in the match at Ladbrokes. They are still without Kaka, Fernando Gago and Higuain as they look catch up to Barcelona at the top of La Liga.
Lyon are no easy opponent and remain unbeaten in seven matches. Leading scorer Lisandro Lopez missed the first leg due to injury but will play in this one. He has four scores in two matches. He has good value to score first with 9/1 odds at Ladbrokes.
But things aren’t all rosy for Lyon. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in eight away matches in the Champions League and haven’t won in four matches. Michel Bastos is suspended and Yoann Gourcuff, Aly Cissokho and Cris are recovering from injury. On top of that, Real Madrid look stronger than they have been in recent seasons.
