Rangers v Manchester United Champions League Preview

Another “Battle of Britain” takes place Wednesday night at Ibrox Stadium with Scottish powerhouse Rangers taking on Manchester United. As usual, both clubs have done well domestically, but United rule in Europe. They are favourites to win this Champions League match.

Rangers odds are getting smaller, a side that has lost just once in the Scottish Premier League. They are coming off a close 3-2 win over Kilmarnock because of a Kenny Miller hat trick. Miller has 18 goals in Scotland but has yet to score in Europe. He has attractive odds to break that streak and score first against Manchester United at 8/1 at Paddy Powder.

To qualify from Group C into the knockout stages of the Champions League, Rangers need to win their last two matches. They had a draw and lost to Valencia in their prior two fixtures, which puts them in third place and under a lot of pressure against Manchester United. Sasa Papac, Madjid Bougherra and Maurice Edu are out with an injury. In the Champions League, they have scored only two goals, but let in four.

On the other side, Manchester United amazingly haven’t conceded a goal in the Champions League. However, they will be without Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic due to injury. Wayne Rooney should make his Champions League return after coming off the bench in the 2-0 victory against Wigan on Saturday. The Red Devils need only a point to qualify for the knockout stages of the football tournament. The last meeting between these two sides produced a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford in September.
