Whilst the Premiership title looks to be pretty much heading to the already bulging trophy cabinet at Manchester United the battle for relegation is still wide open. Derby are of course already relegated, some might say they were already down before the season started, though they’ll be happy with their parachute payment and may come back stronger next time round.
There are however seven teams that can still potentially join Derby to play their football in the Championship next season. Middlesborough and Sunderland look the most likely of the bunch to avoid the drop, both being 7 points clear of the relegation zone with 4 games to go. Middlesborough are 66/1 to be relegated and Sunderland 20/1 with SkyBet.
Wigan are 6 points above the drop zone and picked up a vital and unlikely point at Chelsea earlier in the week. However they have a tough run in facing Spurs, UEFA chasing Villa, fellow relegation battlers Bolton and then Wigan. SkyBet quote them as 16/1 to go down which considering their remaining games is quite a good price.
Birmingham are just 2 points clear at the moment and have some tricky ties with Villa and Liverpool plus fellow strugglers Fulham. They are currently 11/5 to be relegated.
Bolton and Fulham both play in 2 relegation battles and have some tough games to get points if they want to survive. Fulham are 1/10 to be relegated and Bolton 1/3.
Whilst many of the teams fighting for survival have some tough games, including quite a few 6 pointers, with four games to go it’s in their hands to stay in the premiership. By the final week of the season it will probably be down to 3 or perhaps 4 teams that are still trying to stay up.
