Next West Ham Manager Odds

With West Ham being relegated from the Premier League to the Championship after the loss to Wigan, they fired Avram Grant on Sunday night. Former England manager Steve McClaren and current Brighton boss Gus Poyet said they were not interested in filling the void.

That leaves Chris Hughton as the current frontrunner after getting Newcastle back to the Premiership last season. Newcastle treated him poorly but West Ham and its PR disaster could do the same, but he has promotion experience from England’s second tier.

There were rumours back in January that Martin O’Neill would replace Grant in January. He wasn’t impressed with how the club’s board conducted itself then so it’s hard to back him now. Queens Park Rangers boss Neil Warnock could be available, despite promoting his side this season.

Sam Allardyce carries the same odds as Warnock. Allardyce is a good choice for Upton Park as a man who gets the best from what is given to him. Roberto Di Matteo has experience gaining promotion from the Championship, but was cut earlier this year from West Brom. A popular choice would be former West Ham star and current Croatia manager Slaven Billic, or another former West Ham star in Paolo Di Canio.

McClaren has fallen in the odds for Upton Park’s next manager after his most recent comments. He didn’t do well at the helm for England but won the Dutch Eredevisie League with FC Twente. He took a job with Wolfsburg in Germany this yea but was sacked after a dismal start to the season. He was a League Cup winner and UEFA Cup runner-up with Middlesbrough before the England job.
