Next Premier League Manager Gone
The Premier League action is hot right now and it’s only going to get hotter as the league table takes shape into Christmas. We could see another manager leave soon. Ian Holloway said he will leave Blackpool if the FA fines him for substituting 10 players for their match against Aston Villa. His odds for leaving are a bit out there (40/1 at Paddy Powder), but other Premiership bosses are on the hot seat.
Roberto Mancini isn’t feeling so comfortable in Manchester City after being criticized in the Manchester derby. The club isn’t performing as expected with one win in the last five matches after spending millions to build a championship club over the summer. You would think he would be safe with City sitting pretty at fourth in the Premier League and Mancini in his first season as coach. But, consider last year and Mark Hughes’ ousting with City in December as proof that the powers that be have no patience. Over the past three weeks, his odds have significantly been cut as the next Premiership manager to go (from 25/1 to 2/1 now at Paddy Powder).
Chris Hughton is in the same boat at Newcastle. He has done well in some instances for the club in their first season back in the Premier League with a 6-0 win over Villa and 5-1 win over Sunderland. Fifth place seems reasonable for Newcastle, but the claws are out from some fans that think Hughton hasn’t done enough to warrant managing a Premiership club and he has 7/1 odds to go at Paddy Powder.
Roy Hodgson had very short odds to go at Liverpool, but three straight wins and a 1-1 draw against Wigan is keeping him safe for now. Liverpool went from potential relegation to Champions League contenders starting with the 2-1 win against Blackburn. The man in the most danger is Avram Grant at West Ham. His odds have shortened the most in the last few weeks (12/1 to 7/4 odds at Paddy Powder) and it won’t get any easier for West Ham as they go up against quality Premiership clubs Blackpool and Liverpool next.
