Premier League
It’s crunch time for both Newcastle and Middlesbrough tonight in their Premier League fixture. A win for either team could go a long way to improving their survival chances, while a defeat would probably mean relegation becoming a reality.
So after this match will the picture on who is heading for the Championship be any clearer? Possibly…but we think there is every likelihood that nothing will be resolved after this game.
Newcastle are without a win in 10 games and not to be outdone Middlesbrough haven’t won any of their last 10 away games. Lack of goals is a problem for both teams and Middlesbrough have only managed five goals in their last seven games and only two in their last five away matches.
Newcastle have only scored two goals in six matches and everything points to an under 2.5 goals bet at 10/11 (Paddypower) being a winner.
Newcastle are Evens (Skybet) while Middlesbrough are 11/4 (Ladbrokes) to win. With six of the last nine meetings between the teams ending in draws taking the 5/2 (Coral) on another draw tonight looks to be the obvious choice. Our first goalscorer pick is Gary O’Neil 20/1 (Ladbrokes).
Championship Play off
Sheffield United are unbeaten in seven at home and after getting a draw away at Preston in the first leg they are favourites at 10/11 (Skybet) to clinch a place in the final. A last day win for Preston got them to this stage and they have shown good away form recently managing two wins and two draws in their last four games. Preston are 3/1 (Paddypower) to win tonight and having only won one of their last seven games against Sheffield United we think they are up against it.
With 50% of their last eight meetings ending all square the draw at 12/5 (Coral) is worth considering. We don’t think there will be a lot to separate the teams tonight and this is another game where taking under 2.5 goals 4/6 (Skybet) looks likely to bring a return on your stake.
The nerves will be jangling in this match, but we think Sheffield United may just have the edge. We’re going to take them to win to Nil at 2/1 (Ladbrokes). We’re selecting the 1-0 correct score at odds of 6/1 (Coral). We’re also having a bet on Craig Beattie 13/2 (Skybet) to be first goalscorer
