Manchester United v Manchester City Preview

The Premier League weekend kicks off Saturday with Manchester United (15-9-1) and Manchester City (14-6-5) at Old Trafford.

Manchester United were upset by Premiership bottom dweller Wolves last weekend and will be looking to bounce back against a quality Manchester City squad. United are now only four point ahead of second place Arsenal and one ahead of City.

The Red Devils remain the favourites in this match, but their last meeting resulted in a scoreless draw. The pressure will be on the forward line of Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov to generate offense. Berbatov is the league’s top scorer and Rooney is regaining his form. Both have nice value to score first. Rooney has 7/2 odds while Berbatov has 4/1 odds at Coral.

Expect Roberto Mancini’s side to play conservatively since it has been successful for them all season. City fans looking for excitement have become scornful over this style of play, as shown by their 0-0 draw to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last month. The Blues will be playing it tight again so another draw isn’t out of the question. A 0-0 draw has 9/1 odds at Coral.

But City will be looking to kick their cross town rivals while they’re down after the loss last week. Carlos Tevez is their key to victory. He has scored 18 goals on the season and will be well rested after sitting out the Argentina-Portugal match. The striker could score first for City and has 5/1 odds at Coral. United are dangerous after an upset, but a goalless draw looks to be the best bet again.
