SPL- Hamilton v Dundee United

SPL new boys Hamilton Accies kick of their campaign with a tough home match against Dundee United.

Hamilton will be determined to put on a good display tonight to show the other sides in the SPL they can compete at this level and shake of the tag of relegation certainties.

Dundee United had a good finish to last season’s campaign and boss Craig Levein will be looking for United to challenge for the UEFA cup spot this season. Levein has made seven new signings so far and if they can gel quickly then United could be the nearest challengers to Rangers and Celtic this season.  United will prove a tough test for the newly promoted team and are quoted at quite attractive odds of 11/10 (Coral) to win tonight.

Hamilton boss Billy Reid has a full squad to choose from for tonight’s game including his five new summer signings. Home form could be the key to Hamilton staying in the SPL this season and they will be looking to take something from the game tonight. At 9/4 (Skybet) Hamilton aren’t being totally dismissed as no–hopers by Bookmakers for tonight’s match, but it will be hard for them.  They met Dundee United in the League Cup last season and were comprehensively beaten 3-0, but we expect Hamilton to show a far more in this match and it should finish a lot closer.

If you are considering a bet on the first goalscorer then Hamilton’s Marc Corcoran 12/1 (Skybet) is a decent price, while Dundee United’s Francesco Sandaza has been popping the goals in during pre-season and he is 5/1 (Paddypower). Simon Mensing to score anytime at 11/2 (Paddypower) and Willo Flood at 9/2 (VCbet) to do likewise is also worth considering.

We think Hamilton may surprise a few people this season and we expect them to be able to do enough to stay up. They can start tonight by picking up a point in their first SPL match of the season and we’re going for the draw at 12/5 (Paddypower).

The 1-1 correct score at 11/2 (Ladbrokes) is the result we will be having a bet on and we think the half-time/full-time result of Draw/Draw 4/1 (VCbet) could also be worth backing.
