FA Cup Matches Wednesday
Another Merseyside derby takes place tonight when Everton and Liverpool go head to head in their FA Cup fourth-round replay at Goodison.
This will be the third time the two teams have met in the last sixteen days with both previous games ending in a 1-1 draw. With both teams having basically cancelled each other out in the previous two meetings, it’s hard to see how one team will dominate the match and it’s difficult to really make a case for either side to win the match.
Everton do have home advantage and at 2/1 (Paddypower) may look a decent price, but they don’t have a great record against their neighbours at Goodison with only two wins from the last seven meetings and we’d be cautious about taking it.
Liverpool 7/5 (Coral) are on a long unbeaten run and probably deserve favouritism, but six draw from their last ten matches leads us to believe they cannot kill off teams and we’re not convinced they can win this.
We’re going for another draw tonight 9/4 (VcBet) and think it could be worth looking at the prices on offer for qualifying rather than on winning the match. Liverpool are 4/6 (Ladbrokes) to qualify and Everton are 5/4 (Paddypower).
We’re taking a 0-0 correct score 8/1 (Coral).
Aston Villa were surprisingly held by Doncaster in the firs game between these two sides, but we can’t see Villa letting Doncaster of the hook again tonight.
We just can’t see Villa slipping up tonight and we’re backing them to win at 1/3 (Bet365). Having only lost once at home all season Villa will be confident they can get a few goals tonight. The over 2.5 goals at Evens (Betfair) is a bet that looks worth a little nibble.
We’re taking Villa to win by 4-1 28/1 (Skybet) and think Gareth Barry 12/1 (Coral) looks worth a little flutter to be first goalscorer.
The first game between these two teams was a no –action 0-0 bore draw. Neither team deserved to win on the day as they were both as poor as each other. We’re hoping for better fare tonight, but there isn’t a lot to choose between these two sides and if you wanted to take the draw 5/2 (Paddypower) or indeed the 0-0 correct score 9/1 (Coral) we wouldn’t think you were throwing your money away.
Blackburn are a far better betting proposition when they are at home than they are on their travels and they are unbeaten in their last four at home. In the last five meetings at Ewood the sides have managed two wins apiece and one draw. Rovers remain unbeaten under Sam Allardyce, but 10/11 (Ladbrokes) to win is plenty short enough for us for a team that has drawn so many games.
We believe this game may need extra-time and so we’re going for the draw 5/2 (Paddypower) and think during the 90 minutes a 1-1 correct score 33/5 (Betfair) could show a profit.
In the last replay tonight Nottingham Forest play Derby and we’re siding with Forest to get through. Forest have won their last two home league games and are undergoing a bit of a revival under new boss Billy Davis. When you look at their current form compared to Derby –who haven’t won in nine league games away from home- you have to fancy Forest to get the result.
At 6/5 (Coral) Forest look a decent price and we’re going to take them to win the game by a 3-1 scoreline 16/1 (Bet365). Robert Earnshaw has been in great scoring form recently and at 11/2 (Coral) we think he’s a fair price to be the first goalscorer.
