Euro 2008 The Final

So after three weeks of football it’s Germany v Spain in the Final of Euro 2008 on Sunday. Pre tournament favourites Germany are there as expected, although it’s been a difficult journey for them and many people will consider them fortunate to have reached the Final.

Spain have reached the final on merit and have provide some highly entertaining exciting football along the way. This will be their first Final for 24 years and few could argue that they would be worthier winners than Germany having played far more attractive football than their opponents.

Despite not having been the most attractive team in the competition it has to be remembered that Germany have scored three goals twice in their knockout matches and do put away their chances when they fall to them. They are 2/1 (Bodog) to win the final and you wouldn’t discount them being outplayed by Spain yet coming up with a victory in the end as they so often do.

Spain have shown a lot of creativity in their play and produced an excellent second half performance against Russia in the semi-final to win 3-0. They also know how to win without being at their best as they showed in their penalty shootout win against Italy and we think they may just be too good for Germany and are going for a Spain win at 13/10 (Partybets).

The loss of David Villa will be a blow to Spain, but they have shown that they are far from a one man show and they have plenty of other players capable of coming up with goals.

No European Championship has been decided by a penalty shootout but if you think the match may end up being decided like this then you can get 9/1 (VCbet) on both teams.

Extra-time is a possibility and Spain are 9/1 (Ladbrokes) to win in extra-time and you can get 12/1 (Bet365) on Germany winning the match this way.

Whichever way the match is decided we’re going for Spain and the 8/13 (Paddypower) for them to lift the trophy will have our money riding on it.

We’re taking Spain to win 2-1 12/1 (Betfair) and think David Silva at 12/1 (Coral) to be the first goalscorer looks good value and must be worth a small stake.
