Euro 2008 Football Bets for Group C, Group D and Group A

There are six matches taking place over the weekend in the Euro2008 Championships and we’re going to try and come up with some attractive bets for all you punters out there.

Friday

It’s Euro 2008 action in Group C today with both France and Italy needing to get results to keep their Euro 2008 hopes alive.

Italy play Romania and need to bounce back from their opening match 3-0 defeat to Netherlands. Italy were made to look pretty ordinary by the Dutch and they won’t have an easy task today against a Romanian team who will be looking to pick up a point to be in with a chance of qualifying from the group.

Romania will once again play defensively as they did so successfully against France and if Italy don’t get an early goal they may struggle to penetrate the Romanian defence.

Italy are favourites to win the match at 4/6 (Partybets) while Romania are 27/5 (Bodog) to get a shock win. We’re going for the draw 13/5 (Bet365) and are taking the correct score of 0-0 8/1 (Betfair).

Holland will qualify from the group if they beat France and they must have every chance given their performance against Italy. At 7/4 (Paddy Power) they look decent value and in what could be an end to end match they are more than capable of denting the French hopes.

France once again failed to break down a defensively set –up team in Romania, but Holland have a more attacking, open style and France will be better suited to this type of match. France are 15/8 (Coral) to win the match but will have to improve from their first game if they are to get the win.

We’re going for another draw here11/5 (Skybet) and are taking the 2-2 correct score 25/1 (Betfair) our first goalscorer interest is going to be centred on Frank Ribery at 10/1 (Totesport) and Giovanni Van Bronckhurst at 40/1 (Coral.co.uk).

Saturday

With both Spain and Sweden winning their opening games a draw 11/4 (Bet365) would suit both sides in their match. However we think Spain 7/10 (Paddy Power) will win this one comfortably and are taking them to win by 2-0 13/2 (PaddyPower). We think David Villa could be on the scoresheet again and the 9/2 (Bet365.com) for him to score the first goal has to be a worthwhile bet.

Sweden played well in their first match but it was against a very poor Greece side and we don’t think they’ll be able to trouble Spain too much. If you fancy a win for Sweden you can get 11/2 (Skybet).

Greece take on Russia in a game both teams need to win to have any hope of qualifying. In their first match Greece were extremely negative and seemed to be playing for a draw from the outset. They will need to improve drastically on that performance, but Russia were defensively poor albeit against a very good Spanish and this could be a close game.

Greece are 9/4 (Coral) to win the game with Russia at 13/10 (Paddy Power) to run out winners. The draw 9/4 (Partybets) could be worth backing, but we’re going for Russia to win the match 1-0 5/1 (Ladbrokes). Oleg Ivanov at 14/1 (Bet365) looks a decent price to score the first goal.

Sunday

With Portugal already having qualified and Switzerland already out of the tournament it’s likely both teams will make changes for this match. There will be no pressure on either side and this could be quite an open game. At 11/8 (Coral) Portugal look tremendous value, even if they do play some squad players and we think this bet shouldn’t be missed.

Switzerland are 13/5 (Skybet) but we don’t think these odds are generous enough and they don’t look good value. The draw 47/20 (Bodog) could attract punters in a game which is relatively meaningless, but we don’t think the Swiss will be up for this match after missing out on qualification.

We predict a 3-1 Portugal win 20/1 (Bet365).

Turkey’s late winner against Switzerland will give them great heart going into their vital game against the Czech Republic. A win for either side would see them qualify to the next stage and given the performances by both teams so far we think the 13/5 (Betfair) on offer for a Turkey win looks the bet to be on.

The Czech Republic have been pretty disappointing so far and haven’t really shown enough attacking qualities to make us think they can score the goals they need to win this match. They are 11/8 (Ladbrokes) to win the game and although they may raise their game they don’t look likely to win.

A draw is a best price 9/4 (Skybet) but we’re going for a 2-1 win for Turkey at 11/1 (Coral) and think Kazim-Richards at 16/1 (www.Skybet.com) is worth a small stake to be the first goalscorer.
