Chelsea v Copenhagen Preview

There is another Champions League last 16 fixture on Wednesday night other than Real Madrid v Lyon. Chelsea host the Danish side Copenhagen at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are favorites to win again following their first leg 2-0 win at Parken Stadium where striker Nicolas Anelka scored in each half against Copenhagen. It was the first defeat at home in the Champions League for the Danish champions. Anelka has 7/2 odds at Coral to score first on Wednesday.

Chelsea was knocked out of the FA Cup by Everton on penalties in the fourth round replay and manager Carlo Ancelotti’s future was in doubt with a Premier League title out of the question. But the win last month gave him some security and gave Chelsea a chance for some silverware this season.

Fernando Torres is a good bet to score first with 10/3 odds at Coral. The £50 million signee has yet to score since joining the team following the transfer window. There isn’t much pressure on him this week so a relaxed atmosphere should play to his favour.

Copenhagen are a stretch to back for a win but there are no guarantees for Chelsea. Copenhagen’s first leg defeat was their first competitive match following the winter break. They have improved much since then and we could be in for a decent match if they play with the form they showed in the draw to Barcelona in the Champions League group stages.
