Champions League Bets Tuesday/Wednesday
There’s Champions League action again this week and there’s plenty of interest for armchair fans with a host of the games being shown live on TV.
Manchester United were held to a goalless draw at home in their first group match by Villareal and United have looked a goal shy so far this season and they could find it hard to break down a stuffy Aalborg defence who showed great resilience in their first match away to Celtic.
United are 2/5 (Ladbrokes) to get an away win, but we’re going for a draw at 7/2 (Coral) as the most likely outcome. Our selection is a 0-0 correct score at 9/1 (Partybets).
In the other game in this group Celtic travel to Spain to meet Villareal. Celtic’s away form in this competition is nothing short of atrocious and it would be a major shock if they were to get their first away win in the Champions League here. We’re going for a Villareal win at 1/2 (Partybets) and think a correct score bet on a Villareal 2-0 win could get a return at 11/2 (Bet365). Celtic’s poor away form in the competition is reflected on the prices on offer and they are 15/2 (VCBet) to get the away win.
Arsenal were a bit unlucky not to come away from Kiev with all three points in their first match and although Porto will provide a stiff test it’s Arsenal we fancy to get the three points in this one. Arsenal are 8/15 (Ladbrokes) and that looks a decent price to us. Porto will probably set their stall out to hit Arsenal on the counter, but we think Arsenal will win 2-0 5/1 (Partybets). Van Persie 9/2 (Paddypower) to be the first goalscorer looks worth a bet.
Chelsea travel to Romania to play CFR Cluj and they cannot be complacent against a side who travelled to Rome and beat AS Roma 2-1 in their first match. Cluj are a bit of an unknown quantity and Chelsea must be careful they don’t underestimate the Romanians.
Chelsea are hot favourites to win the match at 4/9 (Bodog) while the draw is 3/1 (Skybet). It’s hard to know if the Romanian’s result against Roma was a fluke or not but if they can reproduce that sort of form then they could be overpriced at 15/2 (Bet365) to get the home win. If you’re thinking of backing Chelsea we’d proceed with caution given how little is known about the opposition. We’re going to be cautious and go for the draw.
Liverpool have a home tie against PSV Eindhoven and they can follow up their win in Marseille with another victory here. PSV were comprehensively beaten by Atletico Madrid in their opening match and a comfortable victory for the Merseysiders looks on the cards here. We’re taking Liverpool at 2/5 (Paddypower) to win the match. We’re going for a small stake on a 3-0 win at 9/1 (Ladbrokes) and taking Steven Gerrard to get the first goal at 11/2 (Bet365)
In other matches not concerning British teams we’re going for Anorthosis 9/4 (Coral) to beat Panathinaikos and think Roma could get a win in Bordeaux at decent odds of 7/5 (Bodog).
Atletico Madrid should see off Marseille 4/6 (Paddypower) and we’re having a bet on Sergio Aguero 4/1 (Bet365) to get the first goal. Bayern Munich 4/5 (Bodog) and Fenerbahce 10/11 (Ladbrokes) look as if they can both get home wins.
