Champions League- Must Win Match for Rangers
There are some friendly matches taking place tonight and a couple of Champions League qualifiers tomorrow night, including the Glasgow Rangers match in Lithuania against Kaunas.
Monday Matches 4th August
Fergie senior takes on Fergie junior when Manchester United send a team to play Peterborough tonight and it looks more than likely that it will be Sir Alex rather than son Darren who will be celebrating a victory come the final whistle.
It’s unlikely that Manchester United will field their strongest side tonight, but they still look capable of winning 1/4 (Coral). Peterborough are 10/1 (Paddy Power) to get a win but it looks safer to keep your money in your pocket than back them. We expect it to be a comfortable workout for United and take them to win 3-0 7/1 (Skybet).
We think Ipswich could be worth backing at 2/1 (Ladbrokes) in their match against West Ham. Ipswich are hard to beat at home and they could provide a stern test for West Ham tonight. The 1-0 win 7/1 (Coral) to Ipswich looks a decent price and is worth a small stake.
Portsmouth 2/5 (Paddy Power) should be too powerful for Oxford and look set to run out easy winners. The 3-1 correct score 9/1 (Coral) could be worth backing.
Tuesday Matches
It would be nothing short of a disaster for Glasgow Rangers if they were to fail to beat Kaunas in their Champions League qualifying match tonight. The Lithuanian champions managed to hold the SPL side to a 0-0 draw at Ibrox last Wednesday and with Rangers being comprehensively beaten 4-0 by Liverpool in a friendly match at the weekend the 4/1 (Bet365) on a Kaunas victory looks a tempting price.
On their run to the UEFA Cup Final last season Rangers were extremely hard to score against, but that defensive unit has looked a little vulnerable so far in pre-season games and they could find it hard to keep a clean sheet. Rangers looked well off the pace in the first half of the match at Ibrox last week and will need to show considerable improvement to win in Lithuania tomorrow.
We believe Rangers will qualify for the next round, but they may have to do it the hard way on away goals. We think the match will end in a draw 5/2 (Skybet) with a correct score of 1-1 11/2 (Paddy Power).
SK Brann of Norway take a slender 1-0 lead to Latvia after scoring a late winner in their match in Bergen against Ventspils. The Latvians put up a resolute defensive display in the first match and were a little unlucky not to come away with a draw.
Ventspils look capable of putting up a decent fight at home and we think they could be overpriced at 5/2 (Coral) to win the match. We’re going for Ventspils to win the match 2-0 16/1 (PaddyPower).
