European Championship-Spain U21 v England U21
Best Bets: England v Spain Draw 11/5 (Skybet)
Germany v Finland first goalscorer Marko Marin 10/1 (Coral)
England meet tournament favourites Spain in Gothenburg today hoping to pick up three points that could be enough to see them through to the semi finals.
England managed to scrape a win in their first match against Finland despite being reduced to 10 men. Their commitment and battling qualities couldn’t be faulted, but there was a real lack of quality and fluency in their play and they never looked comfortable defensively all night.
Spain were disappointing against Germany in their first match, playing out a dull goalless draw. Spain had a lot of possession in the match but they rarely troubled the German defence and were a bit lucky to come away with a point. They didn’t play like tournament favourites and will need to improve drastically if they are to take all three points.
Spain are favourites at 5/4 (Ladbrokes) to beat England, but judging by their performance against Germany that looks far too short a price to be taking on and we can’t see them winning so we will be looking to lay them on the exchanges.
England do have problems in defence with injuries and suspensions meaning they will be missing their usual centre backs, but if Spain play like they did in the first game, then this shouldn’t prove to be too much of a problem for them.
If both teams play like they did in their opening games, then we won’t see much goalmouth action and so we’re going to go for the under 2.5 goals in this match 3/5 (Bet365).
It’s hard to pick a winner in this match as both teams were equally poor in their first game. England are 2/1 (Coral) to win the match but we’re having a bet on the draw 11/5 (Skybet).
We’re predicting a 1-1 scoreline 11/2 (Ladbrokes) and taking Gabriel Agbonlahor 7/1 (Coral) to be first goalscorer.
In the other match in this group between Germany and Finland both teams need to take the three points to keep their hopes of qualification alive. Germany were unlucky not to take all three points against Spain mainly due to some poor finishing and inspired goalkeeping by Spanish goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.
Finland just lost out to an uninspiring England team, but showed enough to believe they will be no pushovers.
We do think the German attack maybe too strong for Finland and so we’re going to select a win for Germany at 1/3 (Coral). We’re also predicting a 3-1 correct score 11/1 (Skybet). Our pick to be first goalscorer in this match is Marko Marin 10/1 (Coral)
