League One and Two Play Off Finals
League Two teams Shrewsbury and Gillingham get the play off weekend under way at Wembley on Saturday. There was a lot of money pre season for Shrewsbury to win the league, but poor away form with lots of draws and only four away wins all season cost them dearly and they only just made the play offs.
Gillingham are unbeaten in their last six games and have only conceded two goals in that time. Shrewsbury have pretty similar form going into the final but they have only managed two clean sheets in their last six games. Gillingham were thrashed 7-0 by Shrewsbury in a League game earlier in the season, but we can safely discount t that result as a one-off and there will be no repeat on Saturday.
The bookmakers have these two teams pretty close in the betting with Shrewsbury and Gillingham both priced at 6/4 (Skybet) to win the match.
Past finals have produced a few goals, but these two teams aren’t free scoring and with Gillingham being pretty mean defensively in recent weeks we’re tipping few goals. The under 2.5 goals is 7/10 (Bet365) and we think this looks a bit of a banker.
We wouldn’t be surprised to see a single goal settle this game and taking the under 1.5 goals at 15/8 (Paddypower) is another option to be seriously considering,
Our first goalscorer selection in this match is Simeon Jackson at 6/1 (Ladbrokes)
Our prediction is a win for Gillingham and we’re going for a 1-0 correct score 7/1 (Coral)
The League One Final is between Millwall and Scunthorpe who were both underdogs going into their respective semi finals. Millwall had a huge win at Elland Road against Leeds United while Scunthorpe held the MK Dons over the two legs before winning 7-6 on penalties to book their place in the final.
Both sides will believe they have done the hard bit in reaching the final and will go into the game full of confidence. The bookies have Millwall as favourites at 6/4 (Bet365) and they will have plenty of supporters at that price.
Scunthorpe have averaged nearly 2 goals per game and 67% of their matches have seen over 2.5 goals being scored. They have won the last three meetings against Millwall and these three games have produced three goals or more.
The over 2.5 goals is priced at 13/10 (Bet365) and we’re tipping that bet to be a winner. Taking both teams to score 5/6 (Skybet) should provide a return.
Our prediction for this match is a win for Scunthorpe 9/5 (Paddypower). Taking Scunthorpe to win by 1 goal 7/2 (Ladbrokes) and we’re also going to go for a 3-2 correct score at 40/1 (Skybet)
