Champions League Matches This Week
Tuesday
Manchester United kick off their Champions League campaign with a tie in Turkey against Besiktas tonight. There will be a highly volatile atmosphere in Turkey-as usual-but it’s nothing that United won’t have experienced before and we expect a win for the EPL champions.
Besiktas haven’t started the season too well and are shipping goals. They lost 3-0 to Galatasaray at the weekend and we can’t see United failing to score tonight.
Manchester United are 4/7 (Coral) to get a win and we advise a bet on that outcome. Another bet we like is the 11/10 (Skybet) on offer about both teams scoring.
We’re predicting a win for United and think the 2-1 correct score 7/1 (Ladbrokes).could be worth a bet.
Chelsea are hot favourites at 4/11 (Paddypower) to beat Porto at Stamford Bridge and while we do think Chelsea will win this game, we reckon Chelsea will have to work hard to break Porto down. FC Porto are known to be extremely cautious in away ties in Europe and will get lots of men behind the ball and hope they can create something from a breakaway or a set piece.
This match probably won’t be a great spectacle and we think a single goal may win it. Taking the under 2.5 goals could prove worthwhile 9/10 (Bet365).
Our prediction for this match is a win for Chelsea with a 1-0 scoreline 11/2 (Ladbrokes). Michael Ballack 9/1 (Ladbrokes) is our tip to get the first goal.
Wednesday
Arsenal are 4/7 (Coral) to get a win in Belgium against Standard Liege, but this could prove to be a tough tie for the Gunners and we’re not sure that at odds on Arsenal are good value .Liege are unbeaten in their domestic league so far and at odds of 13/2 (Ladbrokes) they could be worth a little bet. Liege have drawn four of their first six matches this season and another draw 3/1 (Bet365). One bet to consider is laying Arsenal on the exchanges as we don’t think they will win.
Our prediction is a draw with a 1-1 correct score 7/1 (Skybet).
Liverpool are long odds on against Hungarian side Debrecen to get a win and this is a game we think they will win comfortably. The inexperienced Hungarian’s could find themselves overwhelmed by both the atmosphere and by Liverpool’s play tonight.
A win for Liverpool 1/8 (Ladbrokes) is the only outcome we can envisage in this one. Taking Liverpool to win to nil will get you better odds at 4/9 (Paddypower) than a straight win bet and has to be considered. A half time/full time result of Liverpool /Liverpool 4/9 (Paddypower) is also worth a bet.
We’re taking Liverpool to win 4-0 7/1 (Bet365) and are selecting Alberto Riera 11/1 (Paddypower) to be first goalscorer.
SPL champions Rangers go to Stuttgart who they played in the group matches back in 2007. Rangers lost 3-2 on their last visit and they don’t have a great away record, so it’s no surprise to see them quoted at 5/1 (Coral). It’s not all doom and gloom for the Ibrox men however as Stuttgart have only managed to pick up five points from their first five league matches and definitely aren’t in the best of form.
If Rangers past European games are anything to go by then we can expect them to be very defensive and hard to break down and we think this could be a very close match that could go either way.
We’re selecting a draw 11/4 (Bet365) and think this match could well end in a 0-0 scoreline 11/1 (Bet365).
