Who Will Win Euro 2008 Group B

Austria, Croatia, Germany, Poland

Germany are short price favourites to win the group and are also favourites to win the tournament. They seem to be a side that are improving all the time, but they do look vulnerable in midfield on the counter attack. A word of caution for anyone going to back them Germany haven’t won a single game at the European Championships since they won the final back in 1996. They have tough opponents in Croatia and Poland and won’t have things all their own way in this group. Don’t look value at odds on to win the group.

Croatia are second favourites to win the group and if Germany don’t perform well, they could take advantage. They will miss the services of striker Eduardo, but they have a star in the making in 22 year old playmaker Luka Modric who could be one of the stars of the tournament. May struggle to score goals, but will remain very difficult to beat.

Poland are making their first appearance at the European Championships and will be looking to make an impression here. Poland’ s strength lies in their midfield with a holding duo just in front of the defence giving the other three midfielders the chance to support the lone striker. They do lack a bit in creativity but are extremely hard to break down and could take points from the two favourites in the group, giving them a chance to qualify. Their best player is probably Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc who is attracting attention from some of Europe’s top club sides.

Austria are rank outsiders for the tournament and could end up the whipping boys of the group. They are currently 88th in the FIFA rankings and are below teams like Ethiopia and Oman, so that gives you some idea of the task they face here. They are at best an average squad of players who will do well to take anything from their three games.
They don’t have any household names in the side and are unlikely to have any after this tournament.
