Euro 2008 Group Betting
Betting is available on who will win each of the four groups and we’re going to assess the chances of teams in group A and Group B
GROUP A
Teams:
Czech Republic, Portugal, Switzerland, Turkey.
The Czech’s qualified by topping their group which included Germany and they scored 29 goals in their qualifying campaign. A blend of youth and experience, they play a 4-4-2 formation and look set to qualify from the group along with Portugal. Much will depend on the outcome of the first game against Switzerland if they can get a win they could go on and win the group.
Portugal are favourites to win the group and it would be a shock if they were to go out at this stage. It looks a weak group and with the quality they have the only tough match looks to be the Czech Republic. Cristiano Ronaldo will be their main player, but he will be ably backed up by the like of Deco and Nani. Sure to justify favouritism.
Switzerland are the host nation and previously the hosts have done well in the tournament. They rely on their solid defence in their 4-3-2-1 line-up but can lack penetration and punch up front. Their results in friendly matches has been mixed to say the least, with a win over Holland being the highlight, but defeats to Japan and USA shows their inconsistency. The opening match against the Czech Republic will be their cup final. Win it and they could qualify, lose and the will be out.
Turkey look as if they may struggle in this group. They are a pretty volatile lot and many will remember scenes in the 2006 World Cup qualifying match against Switzerland when their failure to qualify ended in violent scenes that resulted in some lengthy bans. That previous history with Switzerland could make the match between the two countries here an extremely fierce contest.
